This Beauty Is Mine

Laurel:
When Becca was looking over the criteria for this assignment and came across the last number, she thought that we should pick something off of my wall that I've done, because she thought they were beautiful. After being flattered that she thought my art was beautiful, I set about to pick something out. This is the piece we decided on. I was inspired one fall day a few years ago by the leaves and the cans of spray paint in the garage. It's one of my favorite creations. I think it's beautiful because of what it reminds me of and because of how simple it is. Two colors, a few leaves, a piece of cardboard. Nothing special, yet everything special. Beautiful.

Becca:
As soon as I read the last piece of the scavenger hunt, yes, Laurel's room was the first thing that came to mind! Her walls are covered in quotes, paintings, and drawings that she took and made her own. I can sit in her room for hours and just study her walls. Absolutely beautiful, be sure to make a visit there sometime! ;)

Beauty Captured On Film

Becca:
Bambi is such an innocent film there is no way to argue it isn't beautiful! From Flower the skunk to Thumper the rabbit and the scenery in the woods this movie is absolutely adorable. Classic Disney movies put me in such a good mood which makes this all the more beautiful!

Art = Beauty

A piece of art that we found found beautiful is Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh.
Laurel:
I find this piece beautiful 1) because its sunflowers, which are my favorite flower and 2) because of what the painting means. In something that seems so bright and lively at first glance, you get the full spectrum of life. The beginning and the end. To me this painting shows that life is beautiful, and yes, even death, in its own way can be beautiful too.

Becca:
I remember the first time I saw this was in first grade when an art teacher came around, very rarely, and discussed an artist. When she displayed Vincent Van Gogh this was my favorite piece! Not only were there flowers, and every shade of yellow, I'd seen it before. This used to hang in my great grandma's house. It's a weird and beautiful thing how a piece or art can bring so many memories.

Music = Beauty

Laurel:
It took us quite a while to decide which song to use for this post, and I think most of that was due to the fact that both Becca and I think music is one of the most beautiful things. We decided that we would go with a song that both of us loved, which narrowed it down, but only slightly. After some thinking from both of us, Becca texted me and said something along the lines of "It just hit me! I Hope You Dance!" and I instantly agreed. "I Hope You Dance" is sung by LeeAnn Womack, and I believe that this song has some of the most beautiful lyrics of all time. They really make you think, and at least for me, they really make me feel. I felt pretty lucky, when searching YouTube for a good video, I found this one. Not only is the song itself beautiful, but the pictures for this video are also beautiful. This is a beautiful song, with a beautiful message, sung by a beautiful woman, with a beautiful voice, put to a beautiful video.

Becca:
Along with everything Laurel says, there is also another tie to a more personal beauty brought forth from this song. One of our good good friends Kaitlin Lund has an absolutely amazing voice, and this is one of her favorite songs to sing.
(A little convo we had on twitter the other night)

I Hope You Dance comes on the radio is the first thing on my mind :)
I just heard it too!! Sang the whole thing :)

You know how friendships can have a song? Well this is one of ours.
Every aspect of this song has beauty to it.

Spontaneous Beauty

Becca:
In mid-lecture I whipped out my phone and captured a picture of our English teacher in his element. He is living his passion and gets so into what he's teaching, very rarely is he not smiling or laughing! Except when he is pondering something as he is in this picture I believe. It's very spontaneous but it's always a beautiful thing.

Laurel:
What else could be more beautiful than someone that lives and breathes for what they do. Its a beautiful thing that our teacher Mr. Reynolds loves his job as much as he does, and we're lucky to have him. Also, as Becca said, this was a very spontaneous shot, but is most definitely beautiful.

Acts Of Beauty

Image 1-
Laurel: What could be more beautiful than watching a puppy run and play? Not a whole lot. I would consider this an act of beauty for a couple of reasons. One, it shows the innocence of being young, and two, it shows pure happiness, both of which I would call beautiful things.

Becca:
This is my Daisy :) and it is an older picture. I was moving my arms around and she was having a blast chasing my shadows. The smallest things made her so happy! Watching something so small and innocent with a whole world of new things to investigate brings me to a sort of calm. Just knowing everything doesn't have to always be hustle hustle. Maybe we all need to take the time to stop and chase shadows. I consider this an act of beauty.

Image 2-
Laurel: Even though Becca hates the picture, I find it beautiful. It shows family, and family is one of the most beautiful things on this earth in my eyes. When you think about it, where would you be without your family? Not only where would you be, but who would you be? There's no love equal to that of a family, and that is beautiful.

Becca:
^^Laurel said it all. This is not the best picture of me. But holding that little one in my arms makes up for it I think. Her name is Raviyn Lynne, and she born on August 8th, and that is the day I became Aunty Becca. This picture was taken September 3rd when she was just under a month old. It was the first picture I ever took with her, and I don't think I will ever forget it. Holding a baby is an act of beauty, and then having it be that first picture together, that brings it to a whole new level.

Not Beautiful...as in UGLY

Working at our local Farmer's Union one night, a man asked me to fill his truck. After he went inside I noticed the shovel in the box of his truck and then investigated further and found the shovel was not alone. How beautiful is a dead raccoon layed out in the box of a truck in the middle of town? Not at all! Why couldn't this man pull over to a ditch or field to bury this creature? This is gross, discusting, disturbing, and worse than the lady with a rat nest under her hood. UGLY.
